Question:

I am a TWC Internet and Home Phone customer, and would like to purchase my own Internet modem. What do I need to do?

Answer:

TWC will provide you with an eMTA, which is a combined cable modem and voice adapter. If you choose to use this for both your Internet and Home Phone service, you will be charged the Internet Modem Lease. If you select to purchase your own cable modem and not be charged the Internet Modem Lease, you’ll need to:

  1. Keep your eMTA device in place for your Home Phone service. Once your personal modem is activated, the Internet data ports will be disabled on your eMTA.
  2. View our list of approved retail modems for your Internet plan.
  3. Buy your modem at a local retailer or online. Connect your modem at home using the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
  4. Keep the TWC provided eMTA. You will need another cable connection for your new modem. If you don’t have an available connection, buy a two-way coaxial cable splitter and two pieces of coaxial cable with connectors.
  5. Remove the existing cable connection from the back of the eMTA, and connect it to theInput connection on the splitter.
  6. Connect one end of the first new coaxial cable to one of the splitter Outputs, and connect the other end of that same cable to the eMTA.
  7. Connect one end of the second new coaxial cable to the other splitter Output, and connect the other end of that same cable to the modem.
  8. Call TWC Customer Care to activate your new modem on your Internet service. Provide the Cable Modem ID (MAC address), usually found on the bottom of the modem
